Dr. Suraphong Lorsomradee
Chiang Mai University, Thailand
An internationally recognized educator in anesthesia and critical care, this nominee
has dedicated his career to advancing clinical practice across Asia, particularly in
resource-limited settings. Following a fellowship in cardiac and transplantation
anesthesia in Belgium and a PhD from Keio University in Tokyo, his research has
focused heavily on hemodynamics, cardioprotection, and functional recovery. He
has translated this expertise into tailor-made workshops and live demonstrations
throughout Southeast Asia, advocating that any technique can be successful if its
limitations and pitfalls are thoroughly understood. Driven by a commitment to his
peers, he co-founded multiple vital organizations—including the cardiac and
transplantation anesthesia societies of Thailand, and the Asia Oceanic Community
of Intravenous Anesthesia (AOCIVA)—to bridge the gap between advanced
university hospital technologies and accessible, non-invasive regional platforms.
Currently leading international cooperation and strategic planning for Thailand's
council of graduate studies, he possesses extensive experience in multi- and
interdisciplinary collaboration across Thai-international universities. His workshops
intentionally move beyond clinical training to foster research inspiration, multicultural adaptation, professional happiness, and work-life balance despite
widespread manpower shortages. Backed by an Indian government award
investigating sociological barriers to implementing healthcare protocols, his career
reflects a deep understanding of cultural diversity and a lifelong willingness to
connect people. His robust collaborative track record, leadership in professional
societies, and unwavering dedication to uplifting the Asian medical community
make him an ideal nominee for the WFSA Council.
